ECD teachers programme 2023 Gauteng
The Gauteng City Region Academy (GCRA) has invited unemployed South Africans to apply for ECD teacher programmes. The GCRA, Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority (HWSETA) are looking for 2,800 young candidates interested in becoming ECD teachers.
The Early Childhood Development (ECD) sector plays a vital role in shaping the educational journey of young children. Recognizing the importance of early education, the ECD function has been shifted to the Department of Education, with the aim of professionalizing the sector and ensuring that every child receives quality early education.
However, many ECD centres, which are often run as non-profit organizations (NPOs), face various challenges in complying with regulations, meeting required standards, and accessing funding.
Additionally, the shortage of qualified teachers hinders the optimal learning and development of children. To address these challenges and uplift the ECD sector, innovative programmes are being implemented to create job opportunities for youth while improving the quality of early education.
In a remarkable three-way partnership between the Gauteng City Region Academy (GCRA), Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority (HWSETA), and BlackBark Productions, a unique programme has been established to enable youth employment and equip ECD centres with trained ECD teachers.
The programme focuses on ensuring that each ECD centre has at least one fully trained and qualified ECD teacher.
With a significant number of young people who can be trained to support ECD centres, the programme aims to recruit approximately 2,800 individuals who will undergo comprehensive training and be placed in registered and compliant ECD centres.
