In 2005, improvements were made to the Early Education Curriculum to meet the requirements of the Education and Training Policy of 1995, the Plan Development of the Education Sector for the year 1999 – 2009 and Development Vision of the Nation until the year 2025. The improvements also considered the Plan Development of Basic Education (MMEM) of the year 2002 – 2006, Tanzania Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Strategy (MKUKUTA), suggestions for various educational studies, teaching and learning needs and views of education stakeholders. Before the year 2005, curricula at the educational levels including Primary, Primary and Secondary Education placed emphasis on content of studies.

In 2005 the curriculum was improved by placing more emphasis on competence building rather than content. With the 2005 improvements, it was found that the curriculum still emphasized more content than the construction of competence. In 2015, the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training improved the Education Curriculum of Primary starting with that of class I and II. The curriculum is focused in developing the initial skills of Reading, Writing and Numeracy (KKK). After to improve the curriculum of class I and II, the next step is to improve the curriculum of other levels including the Early Education Curriculum which was improved last year 2016. The improvements were also based on the Education and Training Policy of the year 2014, with various research results and recommendations from education stakeholders.

The Early Education Curriculum has considered that good early education is important for the life of the child. A child building a solid foundation for learning in Education Initially he will be ready to start class I and progress well in other levels of education.

Concept of Early Education

The concept of Early Education has been interpreted in different ways by experts variety of education. The difference in those interpretations is due to the perspectives of those experts about learning. However, the experts agree about the importance of quality education in the child’s early years before joining and primary school.

Education in these early years is described in the form differences in different contexts depending on the age of the children. In context of Tanzania, Early Education is education provided to young children before join the first class.

The Context of the Early Education Curriculum

This curriculum is developed in the context of the best education for all children is given more emphasis. This context also encourages the implementation of the curriculum you give the child the opportunity to do more in learning. Advancement of Science and Technology, especially Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has brought
changes in teaching and learning. To keep pace with these changes, a curriculum that emphasizes the child and the use of IT is needed in order to bring efficiency in teaching and learning
