General Report Matokeo ya Darasa la saba 2023

A total of 1,397,293 candidates were registered to take the Leaving Examination of Primary including 742,690 Girls (53.15%) and 654,603 Boys (46.85%).

Among the registered candidates, candidates with special needs they were 4,599 equal to 0.33 percent.
Out of 1,397,293 registered candidates, 1,356,392 candidates equal to 97.07 percent took the exam including 726,078 Girls (97.76%) and 630,314 boys (96.29%). In addition, 40,901 candidates (2.93%) did not do it Examination, among them Boys are 24,289 (3.71%) and Girls are 16,612 (2.24%).

A total of 1,092,960 candidates equal to 80.58 percent of candidates 1,356,296 with the results of the 2023 Primary Education Completion Examination they have succeeded where they have got grades A, B, and C. Boys those who passed are 507,920 equal to 80.59 percent and Girls who passed are
585,040 equal to 80.58 percent.

In 2022 the successful candidates they were 1,073,402 equal to 79.62 percent. So, overall success
has increased by 0.96 percent. In terms of performance, most candidates have obtained B and C grades
where grade B is 314,646 candidates (23.20%), grade C is 724,371 candidates (53.41%). In addition, 53,943 candidates (3.98%) they got an A grade.

The quality of pass for Girls has increased significantly to 80.58 percent compared to 78.91 percent in 2022 where the increase in grade A is 0.13 percent, grade B is 0.96 percent and grade C is 0.57 percent.

The pass rate for Boys has increased to 80.59 percent compared to 80.41 percent in 2022 where the increase in grade A is 0.42 percent and grade B is 0.58 percent. In addition, grade C performance has dropped by 0.83 percent. In general, the performance of Boys and Girls is similar where Boys have passed with 80.59 percent and Girls have passed with 80.58 percent.

Schools are organized into one of five (05) achievement groups of competence depending on the performance of the respective school.

School that get an average of 181 – 300 points for six subjects which are equal to an average of 31 – 50 points for each subject, is a group of schools with high performance and is displayed in Green color. School that get an average score of 121 – 180 equal to the average score 21 – 30 per subject is a group of schools with medium performance and is displayed in Yellow color. In addition, schools that get average of Marks 0 – 120 equal to an average of marks 0 – 20 for each subject is a group of low-performing schools and is shown by color Red.

Number of Schools in Proficiency Groups The number of schools in the Proficiency groups shows that, among all 18,314 schools with PSLE 2023 results, many schools of which 13,822 (75.47%) have obtained an average Grade C (ribbon of Yellow) compared to other grades of achievement. Schools with A-C Grade averages have increased by 1.71 percent from the number of 16,294 schools (91.02%) in 2022 until the number of schools reaches 16,984 (92.73%) in 2023. In addition, no school has an average Grade E.

The Tanzania Examinations Council has prevented the release of the results of 360 candidates who had health problems and failed to take the test for studies all or a large number of subjects. The concerned candidates have been given the opportunity to repeat the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) in 2024 for according to Article 32(1) of the Examination Regulations.

The Tanzania Examination Council has canceled all the results of the same 31 candidates and 0.002 percent of the 1,356,392 candidates who took the exam have been found to have cheated in the Primary Education Leaving Examination (PSLE) 2023 in accordance with Article 30(2)(b) of the Examination Regulations 2016 read together with article 5(2)(i) and (j) of the law of the Council Exams Chapter 107.

SCHOOLS CLOSED AS EXAMINATION CENTERS

The Tanzania Examination Council has closed two (02) examination centers which are Twibhoki (PS0904095) and Graiyaki (PS0904122) both of the Council of Serengeti region of Mara proved to plan to commit fraud in Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) 2023 in accordance with Article 4(8) of Examination Regulations in 2016 until the Council is satisfied that it is safe for the conduct of National Examinations.

SCHOOLS GIVEN A WARNING

The Examination Council has written warning letters to four (04) examination centers which are Mother of Mercy (PS0203133), St. Marys’ Mbezi Beach (PS0203088) of Kinondoni Council, Dar es Salaam region, Charm Modern (PS0103111) of Karatu Council in Arusha region with Morotonga (PS0904042) of Serengeti Council, Mara region that tried to engage in cheating in the exam. Stations so they will be under the supervision of the Council of Examinations until the Council when it is satisfied that they are safe centers for the conduct of National Examinations.
