Seeking 16 Research Assistants for a Study on Vi Agroforestry’s Impact on Agrobiodiversity in Bungoma County (Kenya) & Kagera Region (Tanzania)
A consortium of Africa Research and Data Ltd. and Prime Expertise Limited is inviting applications for research assistants for the recently awarded “Study of Vi Agroforestry’s Impact on Agrobiodiversity through SALM and Agroforestry.” This study aims to establish the impact of this initiative on agrobiodiversity, focusing on the variety and variability of animals, plants, and micro-organisms used directly or indirectly for food and agriculture, including crops, livestock, forestry, and fisheries. Specifically, the study will delve into the diversity of genetic resources (varieties, breeds) and species used for food, fodder, fibre, fuel, and pharmaceuticals.
Consequently, we are seeking a blend of research assistants possessing proven technical expertise in the fields of biodiversity, agriculture, agroforestry, botany, and natural resource management.
Duties:
The duties of the research assistants will encompass a range of tasks vital to the success of the study.
- Conduct interviews with all recruited study participants to gather valuable insights and data.
- Collect samples and take photos of specimens to document biodiversity and agricultural practices.
- Perform farm measurements through transect walks and observations to assess land use and biodiversity.
- Complete, edit, and submit all assigned interviews on a daily basis for cross-checking and verification.
- Review the collected quantitative data to ensure all questions are thoroughly answered before online submission.
- Follow up with participants, where necessary, to obtain missing responses or correct any inaccuracies in the data.
- Ensure the safety and proper maintenance of all assigned study tools and equipment.
- Moderate and facilitate qualitative interviews with study respondents, guiding discussions to extract relevant information.
- Take detailed notes, transcribe, and compile qualitative interview transcripts into debriefing reports and notes for analysis.
Minimum Qualifications:
The minimum qualifications for potential candidates include:
- A diploma or undergraduate degree in the fields of biodiversity, agriculture, agroforestry, botany, or natural resource management.
- Fluency in both English and Swahili languages, with proficiency in both oral and written communication.
- Experience in electronic data capture methods, utilising tools such as KoBo Collect, ODK, SurveyCTO, or similar devices and electronic digital recorders.
Mandatory Requirements:
In compliance with the technical demands of this assignment, we acknowledge that data collection can be executed by individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences. However, for this particular study requiring specialised knowledge and expertise, we will exclusively consider applications from candidates holding diplomas or degrees in the fields of biodiversity, agriculture, agroforestry, botany, or natural resource management.
Moreover, residency in Bungoma County (Kenya) or the Kagera Region (Tanzania) is also mandatory.
