LIVE: Israel carries out strike in Iran, a US official says

The Israeli military has says they "don't have a comment at this time," when asked by CNN about reports of explosions in Iran.

Israel carried out a strike inside Iran early Friday local time, a US official tells CNN. The target is not nuclear, the official said.

The US also said it had advance warning of Israel's retaliation against Iran but "didn't endorse" it, a senior US official said.

Airspace above Western Iran appear to have been cleared, according to data from Flightradar24.

Oil and gold prices in the world are rising while stocks are falling after US officials said that an Israeli missile had hit Iran. In Asian trading on Friday morning, Crude Oil is reported to have risen by more than 3% to around $90 a barrel, while gold traded as high as $2,400. Stock markets in Japan, Hong Kong and South Korea also fell after the reports. Investors have been closely monitoring Israel's response to last weekend's Iranian drone and missile attack.
