Missenyi District Council is one of the eight District Councils of Kagera Region. This council was established on July 1, 2007 after the Bukoba District Council was divided into two councils (Missenyi District Council and Bukoba District Council).

According to the 2022 Population and Housing Census, the number of residents of Missenyi District is 245,394, of which 120,995 (ME) and 124,399 (KE)

Missenyi District Council borders Uganda in the North, Bukoba Rural District in the East, Karagwe District in the South and Kyerwa District in the West. The area of ​​Missenyi District Council is on the West side of Lake Victoria. The area of ​​Missenyi District Council is 2709 km².
