We are currently seeking qualified and motivated professionals to join our Operations Department as Cash Officers — key players in ensuring effective cash management, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction across all branches.
🎯 Job Purpose
The Cash Officer is responsible for managing the branch’s cash operations, ensuring accurate handling, security, and reconciliation of all cash transactions. This role supports teller operations, oversees ATM cash management, and ensures compliance with the bank’s policies and regulatory standards.
The Cash Officer plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity, accuracy, and efficiency of cash transactions while promoting a superior customer experience and upholding the bank’s reputation for operational excellence.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
A. Cash Operations Management

Ensure 100% compliance with the Bank’s policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.

Enforce AML (Anti-Money Laundering) and KYC (Know Your Customer) standards.

Monitor teller readiness at the start of day and ensure sufficient cash availability.

Act as custodian of reserve and intraday cash safes, ensuring strict access control.

Maintain teller cash limits and ensure branch-wide adherence to approved cash thresholds.

Manage cash ordering and repatriation processes efficiently and securely.
B. Cash Monitoring and Reconciliation

Track and monitor cash movements across physical holdings and general ledger (GL) entries.

Supervise teller operations, ATM cash loading, and intraday transactions.

Batch-proof teller work and reconcile discrepancies accurately.

Ensure zero cash differences are reported to the Cash Centre or the Bank of Tanzania (BOT).

Prepare accurate and timely cash reports and certificates.
C. ATM Management and Efficiency

Ensure ATM machines are replenished with clean, serviceable notes and remain fully functional.

Maintain 99.9% ATM uptime through proactive monitoring and coordination.

Supervise ATM balancing, cash replenishment, and troubleshooting procedures.
D. Staff Supervision and Productivity

Oversee teller performance and enhance productivity through set KPIs.

Conduct end-of-day teller cash confirmations and ensure accurate handovers.

Maintain teller box registers and ensure security of cash-related assets.

Champion staff training on cash handling, security procedures, and P&P compliance.
E. Customer Service & Cross-Selling

Ensure customer satisfaction levels exceed 95% through efficient cash service delivery.

Support deposit mobilization and cross-selling of banking products during cash interactions.

Uphold the Equity Bank brand image through professionalism and operational excellence.
F. Risk & Compliance Management

Adhere strictly to bank security and cash handling protocols.
-
Identify, investigate, and escalate suspicious or irregular transactions.
-
Maintain proper filing, documentation, and archiving of cash records.
-
Ensure full compliance with BOT, AML, and fraud prevention standards.
G. Other Responsibilities
-
Coordinate back-office cash activities.
-
Support audit processes and provide relevant documentation when required.

Perform any additional tasks assigned by the supervisor.
🎓 Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Banking, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
Additional certifications in banking operations or financial services will be an added advantage.
🧠 Knowledge Requirements

Strong understanding of cash handling procedures, vault management, and cash balancing.

In-depth knowledge of banking operations, teller processes, and branch workflows.

Familiarity with core banking systems, cash reconciliation, and transaction processing tools.

Understanding of regulatory compliance, KYC, AML/CFT, and fraud prevention protocols.

Knowledge of currency authentication techniques (detecting counterfeit notes).
-
Awareness of core banking products and services — including savings, deposits, and loans.

🧾 Experience Requirements
-
1–3 years of experience as a Teller, Cashier, Cash Officer, or similar banking role.
-
Proven experience in cash handling, balancing, and cash reconciliation.
-
Previous experience in branch operations or customer-facing banking roles.
-
Experience in high-volume cash environments will be an added advantage.
