About Haydom Lutheran Hospital

Haydom Lutheran Hospital (HLH), operated by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT), Mbulu Diocese, has announced eight (8) vacancies for Medical Doctors.

Haydom Lutheran Hospital was officially opened in 1955 with a capacity of 450 beds. It was initially built and operated by the Norwegian Lutheran Mission (NLM) before being handed over to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania, Mbulu Diocese, in 1963.

In 2010, through Government Gazette Public Notice No. 828 of 12 November 2010, Haydom Lutheran Hospital was upgraded to become a Regional Referral Hospital for Manyara Region.

The hospital is committed to providing quality, affordable and holistic healthcare services, particularly to marginalized rural communities, while also serving as a teaching and referral centre.

Position: Medical Doctor – 8 Posts

Haydom Lutheran Hospital is inviting dynamic, qualified and suitable Tanzanians to apply for the available Medical Doctor positions.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from a recognized institution.
• Have completed a one-year internship.
• Be registered with the Medical Council of Tanganyika (MCT).
• Possess a valid practising licence issued by the MCT.
• Be able to handle emergency cases and work under minimal supervision.
• Be willing and committed to serving in a rural setting.
• Have good communication, interpersonal and clinical decision-making skills.
• Be able to work effectively as part of a team.
• Demonstrate adherence to medical ethics and professional codes of conduct.

Duties and Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be expected to perform duties including:

• Attending, clerking, investigating, diagnosing and managing both outpatients and inpatients.
• Conducting ward rounds, on-call duties and emergency management.
• Performing minor surgical procedures and assisting with major surgical procedures according to their skills and competence.
• Supervising and mentoring Assistant Medical Officers, interns and students.
• Ensuring proper documentation, patient records management and confidentiality.
• Ensuring compliance with Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and quality assurance standards.
• Participating in clinical audits, outreach services, research and Continuous Medical Education (CME).
• Performing other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Head of Department.
