Sugar production complements the Group’s existing product offering and can be distributed at a low cost by leveraging on our current brand, distribution, and logistics network. At the behest of the Tanzanian Government, the green field project of Bagamoyo Sugar Limited (Bagamoyo Sugar), a unit of Bakhresa Group, was incorporated on 01 December 2016, to grow sugar cane in the nucleus estate and produce sugar at Makurunge, Bagamoyo District.
The main objective of the project is not only reducing dependence on sugar imports and attaining self-sufficiency but also producing surplus sugar for export.
