Commonwealth Master’s and PhD Scholarships in the UK 2027/2028 for Tanzanian Students
The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) in the United Kingdom has announced scholarship opportunities for eligible Tanzanians seeking to pursue Master’s and PhD programmes in the United Kingdom for the 2027/2028 academic year.
The scholarship programme supports students to gain advanced skills, knowledge and international networks that can contribute to addressing development challenges in their home countries. Since 1960, the CSC has funded more than 34,000 individuals to study in the UK.

Eligibility Requirements
Master’s Degree Applicants
Applicants seeking a Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship must hold a first degree with at least Upper Second Class Honours.
PhD Applicants
Applicants for PhD scholarships must have a relevant postgraduate qualification, specifically a Master’s degree with at least Upper Second Class Honours or Distinction.
UK University Supervisor
All applicants must have the support of a potential supervisor from at least one eligible UK university, and the supervisor should be identified in the application form.
Applicants must also submit all supporting documents in the required format.
Those who obtained their academic qualifications outside Tanzania must have their certificates verified by the relevant accrediting authorities.
Required Scholarship Documents
Applicants should prepare the following supporting documents:
- Certified academic certificates and transcripts.
- Two recommendation letters/referee reports.
- A supporting statement from a UK institution for PhD applicants.
- Proof of Tanzanian citizenship or refugee status in a Commonwealth country.
- A quality study plan explaining the potential impact of the proposed studies on the development of the applicant’s home country.

Candidates must apply using the CSC’s online application portal which can be found on the CSC website. Online application open on 8th September, 2026 and closed by 20 October, 2026 at 16:00 (GMT).
