The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and completeness of financial transactions related to lending operations.

The Credit Accountant will oversee key areas including loan accounting, portfolio reconciliations, interest calculations, loan disbursements, repayment accounting, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities of the Credit Accountant

The successful candidate will perform the following duties:

Loan Portfolio Accounting

• Maintain accurate records of loan disbursements, repayments, write-offs, and recoveries.
• Ensure lending transactions are properly recorded in the Core Banking System or Loan Management System (LMS).

Financial Reporting

• Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports on loan portfolio performance.
• Support the preparation of management accounts and financial reports.

Reconciliations and Internal Controls

• Perform daily reconciliations of loan accounts, bank accounts, and suspense accounts.
• Strengthen financial controls relating to lending operations.

Revenue Management

• Verify interest calculations and penalty charges.
• Reconcile loan-related revenue with the General Ledger.

Regulatory Compliance

• Ensure compliance with relevant statutory and regulatory requirements, including:
  • Bank of Tanzania (BOT) statutory returns
  • IFRS requirements
  • VAT obligations
  • PAYE requirements
  • Other applicable tax filings

Audit and Risk Management

• Support internal and external audit processes.
• Help identify and mitigate financial risks.
• Ensure compliance with internal control policies and procedures.

Budgeting and Financial Analysis

• Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities.
• Analyze loan portfolio trends and revenue drivers.
• Evaluate loan profitability and financial performance.

Stakeholder Collaboration

• Work closely with Loan Officers, Operations teams, and ICT personnel.
• Support system reconciliations and improvements in operational efficiency.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants for the Credit Accountant job in Dar es Salaam should meet the following requirements:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
• Professional qualifications such as CPA (T), ACCA, or an equivalent certification are highly desirable.
• At least three years of accounting experience in a:
