The National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) is a corporate body established by the National Council for Vocational Education Act, 1997 (Act No. 9 of 1997). The law provides a legal framework for the Council to coordinate the provision of technical education and training and to create a good national reputation system that ensures that the products of technical institutions are of the highest quality and meet the changing needs and technological innovations of the world.
Technical education in this context is defined as “the education and training that students undertake to give them responsibilities that require high levels of skill, knowledge and understanding and in which they take responsibility for their areas of expertise.” As such, NACTE is a multi-sectoral, multi-sectoral institution mandated to oversee and coordinate the provision of vocational education and training in Tanzania.
