Simba Sport Club is successfully advanced to the quarter-finals of the Confederations Cup in Africa after thrashing US Gendarmerie 4-0 in a game played at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
Simba Sports started the game fast and headed for the Gandarmerie gate but our players lacked composure in the final opponents’ area where we lost chances that would have made us go to the break ahead.
Sadio Kanoute gave Simba Sc the first goal in the 63rd minute with a powerful low shot in the 18th minute after receiving a pass from Bernard Morrison.
Left-back and assistant captain Mohamed Hussein failed to continue the game after injuring his thigh muscle and was replaced by Israel Patrick.
Chris Mugalu added a second in the 68th minute to end Morrison’s fine performance of defending the Gendarmerie defenders and delivering a goal-scoring pass.
Mugalu scored third goal in the 78th minute after receiving a pass from Kibu Denis following an attack by Jonas Mkude and Shomari Kapombe.
Gendarmerie goalkeeper Saidou Hamishe scored and gave Simba ports the fourth goal in the 84th minute after being sent back by his defender who looked harmless.
Coach Pablo Franco replaced Pape Sakho, Morrison, Rally Bwalya and Mugalu with Kibu, Taddeo Lwanga, Peter Banda and Medie Kagere.
This victory has given Simba sports Club 10 points to finish second behind RS Berkane who we are level on points with a goal scorer but are on top due to one more goal they scored in the two matches we met.
