Kishapu District Council is one of the three districts that make up Shinyanga Region while the other districts are Kahama and Shinyanga. The district borders Meatu District (Simiyu) and Iramba (Singida) to the east and Shinyanga to the west, Igunga to the south, Kwimba and Maswa to the north.
The District has 4,333 square kilometers which is equivalent to 8.5 percent of the total Regional area which is located 50,781 square kilometers. The total area of human settlements is 1,536.4 square kilometers which is 35.5 percent of the total area, The agricultural activity area is 1,898.33 which is 43.8 of total area. The livestock area is 747.02 square kilometers which is 17.2 percent of the total area, the forest area is 100.78 square kilometers which is 2.3 percent of the total area and the area area is 50.47 percent which is 1.2 percent of the total area.
The district has 3 divisions, 29 counties and 117 villages where it has one constituency. The district has successfully established the Kishapu small town Authority.
