The Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships for Foreign Scholars Tenable for the Academic year 2024/2025.
1.0 Call for Application
The General public is hereby informed that the Swiss Confederation is offering Government Excellence Scholarships to promote international exchange and research cooperation between Switzerland and Tanzania. The Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships are aimed at young researchers who have completed a master’s degree or PhD in any discipline and are planning to go to Switzerland to pursue research or further studies at the doctoral or post-doctoral level. Research scholarships are awarded for research or study at all Swiss cantonal universities, the University of Applied Science, and two federal institutes of technology. Only candidates nominated by an academic supervisor at one of these higher education institutions will be considered. Interested candidates are highly encouraged to apply.
2.0 Eligibility
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
- For Research and PhD Scholarships: Must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent achieved before 31 July, 2024 and recognized by the Swiss university and must be below 35 years.
- For Postdoctoral Scholarships: Must have completed PhD after 2020
and before 31 July, 2024.
- Applicants who have been in Switzerland for more than one year at the beginning of the scholarship are not eligible; and
- Applicants who have already benefited from a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship are not eligible.
List of documents to be submitted
An applicant must submit the following supporting documents as part of the evaluation process:
i. Certified copies of academic Certificates and Transcripts or Diploma final Transcript;
ii. Curriculum vitae (CV);
iii. Copy of the first three pages of the passport.
Scope of the Scholarship
▪ The scholarship covers:
i. Grants ranging from 1,920 – 3500 Swiss Francs per month;
- Health insurance;
- Accommodation; and
- Return flight allowance.
NB: There is no top-up loan or grant from the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania for candidates who will be offered this Scholarship. Candidates are advised to find other sources of money to cover costs not fully covered by the scholarship.
