How to get Matric 2024 exam results: Where you can get your 2024 matric results
Matric 2024: Almost 99% of private school pupils pass Independent Examinations Board exams, Matric pupils who wrote the 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams through the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) achieved an overall pass rate of 98.47%, slightly higher than the 98.46% achieved in 2023.
The Class of 2024 achieved a Bachelor’s pass rate of 89.37% compared to 88.59% in 2023.
At least 7.56% of candidates achieved entry to diploma study compared to 8.31% in 2023.
“In Grade 8, amidst the severe lockdown of 2020, they encountered disruptions to foundational learning, adapted to new modes of education, and navigated the psychological impacts of uncertainty and isolation,” said Confidence Dikgole, CEO of the IEB, which is an independent assessment body that is separate from the public exams body, which is the Department of Basic Education.
A total of 16 304 candidates, including 14 990 full-time and 1 314 part-time candidates, from the country’s private schools wrote the exams at 275 exam centres.

Where and how can I access my matric results?
To access your matric results online, you can type your examination number into News24’s matric results portal.
It’s important to note that the portal will only display the results of those who agreed to have their results published in the media in compliance with the Protection of Personal Information (POPI) Act.
Individuals who did not opt in will have to contact their school or provincial education department for their results.
Here are the NSC pass requirements:
Admission to bachelor studies
- Must obtain at least 40% for the candidate’s home language (this is compulsory);
- Must obtain at least 50% for the candidate’s four other subjects, excluding life orientation;
- Must obtain at least 30% for the language of learning and teaching of the higher education institution;
- Must obtain at least 30% for one other subject; and
Must pass at least six of the seven subjects.
Admission to diploma studies
- Must obtain at least 40% for the candidate’s home language (this is compulsory);
- Must obtain at least 40% for three of other subjects, excluding life orientation;
- Must obtain at least 30% for the language of learning and teaching of the higher education institution;
- Must obtain at least 30% for one other subject; and
- Must pass at least six of the seven subjects.
Admission for higher certificate studies
- Must obtain at least 40% for the candidate’s home language (this is compulsory);
- Must obtain at least 30% for the language of learning and teaching of the higher education institution;
- Must obtain at least 40% for two other subjects;
- Must obtain at least 30% for three other subjects; and
- Must pass at least six of the seven subjects.
What if I’m not happy with my matric results?
If you’re not satisfied with your matric results, you can apply to have your exam scripts remarked or rechecked at a fee. According to the Department of Basic Education (DBE), remarking services can be requested at your school, local district office or online. However, you only have until 29 January to apply for this.
The results of the remarked scripts will be released from 7 March and will be available at the school or exam centre where you wrote your final papers.
Meanwhile, if you want to improve your exam results, you can sit for the rewrite in May or June this year. The closing date to register for this is 7 February. Be sure to check that you meet the stipulated criteria.
