About the Role

Equity Bank Tanzania is seeking talented, motivated, and customer-focused professionals to join our team as Relationship Officers – Operations. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about delivering outstanding customer experiences, ensuring operational efficiency, and supporting the bank’s growth through cross-selling and customer relationship management.

The successful candidates will be responsible for both front-office and back-office operations, ensuring smooth daily transactions, compliance with policies, and the highest standards of customer service.

Basic Purpose

The Relationship Officer – Operations is responsible for ensuring operational excellence within the branch by managing transactions accurately, supporting customers effectively, and promoting the bank’s products and services through professional interactions.

This role is crucial in maintaining a positive customer experience, ensuring compliance with internal controls, and contributing to the overall growth and profitability of the branch.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Customer Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with institutional clients, corporate customers, and project-related clientele.

  • Understand customer needs, provide personalized solutions, and identify cross-selling and upselling opportunities.

  • Serve as the first point of contact for customers, ensuring a positive and professional experience at all times.

2. Transaction Handling & Cash Operations

  • Accurately dispense and receive physical cash and other financial instruments, including foreign currency.

  • Maintain 100% compliance with the bank’s cash management policies and procedures.

  • Ensure all customer transactions are accurate, complete, and processed efficiently.

  • Perform transaction reconciliations and manage cash float balances responsibly.

3. Compliance & Risk Management

  • Strictly adhere to AML (Anti-Money Laundering), KYC (Know Your Customer), and BOT (Bank of Tanzania) prudential guidelines.

  • Monitor and report operational risks, suspicious activities, or process deviations promptly.

  • Maintain meticulous transaction and compliance records in accordance with the bank’s operational standards.

4. Sales & Business Growth

  • Actively promote Equity Bank products and services through direct customer interactions.

  • Identify customer needs and refer them to relevant banking solutions (loans, accounts, digital banking, etc.).

  • Support branch sales targets by building long-term customer loyalty and trust.

5. Operational Excellence

  • Ensure adherence to internal policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality standards.

  • Contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives to enhance branch performance and service delivery.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure seamless branch operations and customer satisfaction.

6. Other Duties

  • Perform any other tasks as assigned by your supervisor in line with departmental goals.

Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Banking & Finance, Accounting, Economics, or any related field.

  • Additional certifications in banking operations, customer service, or financial services will be an added advantage.

 Technical Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong understanding of banking products, operational procedures, and regulatory frameworks.

  • Proficiency in core banking systems and digital banking platforms.

  • Competence in handling operational functions, including:

    • Account opening and maintenance

    • Cash management and reconciliation

    • Compliance and documentation checks

  • Excellent computer literacy – especially in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

 Work Experience

  • 1–3 years of experience in banking operations, customer service, or relationship management.

  • Prior experience in branch operations, account handling, or financial transaction processing preferred.

  • Proven ability to meet service quality standards and maintain compliance with operational controls.
