About University of Dar es salaam

The University of Dar es Salaam is the largest and oldest public university in Tanzania. It is located west of the city of Dar es Salaam, covering 1,625 acres on an observation hill, 13 kilometers from the city center. It was introduced on July 1, 1970, through an Act of Parliament No. 12 of 1970 and all legal entities enabling universities.

The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) is the oldest and most popular public education and Research University in Tanzania offering Master’s Degree, Master’s Degree and Doctorate and development programs leading to certification and diploma awards. University it includes the college of Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere Mlimani, which is an existing university 13 km west of downtown Dar es Salaam and includes several scholars and non-professional units, including the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Fisheries Technology (CoAF), Faculty of Humanities (CoHU), Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (CoICT), Faculty of Engineering and Technology (CoET), Faculty of Natural Sciences and Applied Science (CoNAS) and Faculty of Social Sciences (CoSS). Others are University Dar es Salaam School of Education (SoEd), School of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC), University of Dar es Salaam Law School (UDSoL), University of Dar es Salaam School of Business (UDBS), School of Mining and Geosciences (SoMG), School of Water Fisheries Science and Technology (SoAF), Faculty of Economics of the University of Dar es Salaam (SoEC), Wilbert Chegula Library of the University of Dar es Salaam, Institute of Kiswahili Studies (IKS), Institute of Resource Assessment (IRA), Development Training Institute (IDS), Confucius University of Dar es Salaam Institute (CI UDSM), Virtual Learning Center (CVL), Center Population Training and Research (CPSR), Center for Climate Change Training (CCCS), Center of Compulsory Immigration Training (CFMS), Education and Expertise Research Center Development (CERPD) and Communication Training Center (CCS). Other units in The college includes the Office of Quality Assurance (QAB), Creative University of Dar es Salaam and Entrepreneurship Center (UDIEC), University Computer Center (UCC), Dar es Salaam University Media (DUP), University Advisory Office (UCB), Gender Center (GC), Technology Transfer and Development Center (TDTC), Office of Industrial Cooperation (BICO) and the University Student Housing Office (USAB). Other colleges are the Faculty of Education at the University of Dar es Salaam (DUCE) in Dar es Salaam Salaam, Mkwawa University School of Education (MUCE) in Iringa, Mbeya School of Health and Participatory Science (MCHAS) in Mbeya, Institute of Marine Science (IMS) Zanzibar, and University of Dar es Salaam – Institute of Mineral Resources (UDSM-MRI) which has two universities: Dodoma and Nzega.

What is UDSM ARIS (Academic Registration Information System)

The Academic Registration Information System (ARIS) holds all the information relating to students and their studies at the University of Dar es Salaam.

ARIS allows Staff and Students of UDSM to manage their management tasks online. Here is an example of what ARIS can do:

Students at Univesity of Dar es salaam they can use ARIS to do the Following:-

  • Register for Courses online

Student of University of Dar es salaam can Register each semester courses online. At the university of Dar es salaam there is a lot of course offered each. For student to take a course he/she must register particular course in ARIS so that the college can know the exact number of students who will take a particular course. What if the student will not register a course in ARIS, failure for students to register the course in ARIS he/she can not sit for Final University Examination(UE). So student is strictly advised to register the course in ARIS. This functionality allows you as a student to register courses for the next academic year. At ARIS you will see a list of core and optional courses for your degree programmes in the next academic year. You can select the optional courses you wish to register by checking the checkbox beside the corresponding courses. Core courses are automatically selected for you. Incase you are required to specify a specialized degree programme, Click “Edit” on the “Degree Programme Information” area and select a specialized programme you wish to pursue. So some student can ask how can  student know which course should Register in ARIS?

  • View Course Progress and Results

Another work of ARIS for student is to check their results and progress while they are at college. Results of each students are placed for every students ARIS account.

  • Accommodation Management

Students at University of Dar es Salaam can check its accommodation management at ARIS. Student can know which Hostel hosted

  • Payment Management

At ARIS also student can check their payments status and what he/she is supposed to pay and also generate control number for payments

  • Degree Configuration

After the year of Studies at university student will confirm at ARIS if he/she will attend the Graduation Ceremony
