Applications for the 2025 Japanese Government Scholarship are now open!

Japan embassy in Tanzania announce the opening of the 2025 MEXT Scholarship for Tanzanian nationals. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (MEXT) offers fully funded scholarships to Tanzanians who wish to pursue studies at Japanese universities/schools on a full-time basis.

[APPLICATION PERIOD]

  • 30 April – 31 May 2024 (Application must be received by the embassy by 4:30 p.m.)

HOW TO APPLY

STEP 1; Read through the guidelines and make sure that you meet the requirements for your desired program.

STEP 2

Download the application documents and gather the necessary documents.

STEP 3

Put all your application documents and the checklist in ONE envelope and attach the coversheet on the top of the envelope.

[Important notice]

– Please use one envelope per application. The envelope should contain two application packets, as detailed in the checklist. The first packet should contain a complete set of original documents, while the second should contain a complete set of copies.
– DO NOT STAPLE.
– Applications without the right documents will not be considered.

Post or hand-deliver to the Embassy of Japan. NO EMAIL SUBMISSIONS.

[SELECTION PROCESS]

(1) Written exams
     – Research students: mid-June 2024
     – Undergraduate and Specialized Training College students: the end of June/beginning of July 2024

*Previous exam questions are available as a sample. It is strongly recommended that you prepare for the exam.

(2) Interview
     – Research students: the end of June 2024
     – Undergraduate and Specialized Training College student: mid-July 2024

*Only those selected for further consideration will be notified of the exact date and time. If you have not heard from us by the end of June, please consider your application unsuccessful.
**The Embassy of Japan in Tanzania only conducts the first screening of the application process. A recommendation from the Embassy does not guarantee that you will be selected as a MEXT grantee.

RESEARCH STUDENT

  • For students who wish to further their studies at a master’s or doctoral levels.
  • Applicants must be under the age of 35 (born on or after 2 April 1990) and have a bachelor’s degree (including prospective graduates) and have completed at least 16 years of schooling or have a relevant qualification.

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT

  • For students who wish to pursue a bachelor’s degree in either Natural Science (e.g. electrical, mechanical engineering, agriculture, medicine, etc) or Social Science (e.g. law, literature, economics, Japanese language, etc) at a Japanese university.
  • Applicants must be under the age of 25 (born on or after 2 April 2000) and have completed 12 years of school education or have a relevant qualification (includes prospective graduates).

SPECIALIZED TRAINING COLLEGE STUDENT

  • Students who wish to obtain a diploma in various fields, such as engineering and architecture, after a one-year intensive Japanese course (all coursework will be conducted in Japanese).
  • Applicants must be under the age of 25 (born on or after April 2, 2000) and have completed 12 years of schooling or have a relevant qualification (includes prospective graduates).
