The Employment Secretariat has launched a digital interview system (AOTS) that will enable the applicant to be interviewed at his location instead of traveling a long distance, in order to reduce costs for the Government and the interviewees.

Employment Secretariat has launched a digital interview system (AOTS)
This was determined yesterday March 23, 2024 in Dodoma, at a working session to introduce the system to the heads of Government IT, the private sector and universities from Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar. The system will officially come into use on April 6, this year.
Speaking at the meeting, the Minister of State, Office of the President, Public Service Management and Good Governance, George Simbachawene has asked the employees of the Employment Secretariat to be fair and honest in the process of providing employment as the matter is sensitive and affects the security of Nation.
Simbachawene has said that the issue of employment is the life of the people, so the process should be governed by transparency and integrity in order to remove complaints from those who are looking for employment in the government. He said that the system will help reduce the costs of interviewees who were complaining about traveling long distances to the interview center, spending a lot of time and costing a lot, and then at the end of the day they are unemployed.
“You find a person traveling from Lindi to Dodoma for an interview, sometimes he arrives without even knowing where he will get to, the fare itself is borrowed and then he arrives and has to spend three days for the interview. You find even his psychology is not good, but with this system it will help reduce the costs that initially caused many fail to go to the interview centers,” said Simbachawene.
The Minister has said along with the sequence, but at the end of the day a person is unemployed when he has spent a lot of money for the interview, a situation that was causing complaints among the interviewees. He has asked the employees of the Employment Secretariat to do justice to all those who are looking for employment in the country so that they do not destroy the national security.
He has given an example of the interview for the jobs of the Tanzania Port Authority (TPA) and the Revenue Authority (TRA) which caused a big risk in the country by gathering many young people at the same time and when the required number was small.
“The interview caused a great stir because TPA needed 1,500 people but those who showed up were 14,000 and TRA needed 2,100 people but those who showed up were 36,000. This is a big risk, 36,000 people entering at the same time in one region and some were sleeping at the station and others stand while they wait for the results of their interviews,” he said. He said that if the system works well, it will also be introduced in the education and health sectors so that when they hire, they will use the interview system.
Acting Secretary General of the Employment Secretariat, Innocent Bomani has said that the system will enable applicants to conduct interviews at designated centers in their regions instead of traveling to others. He said that this will reduce the cost of distance and fare that the interviewees were using. The Assistant Secretary of IT Infrastructure from the Employment Secretariat, Mtage Ugullum has said that among the 154 centers allocated for interviews across the country, 119 were the ones that had 8,375 computers with internet access. He said the first interview to use the system will be held on April 6, 2024, which will be for IT officers

On Wednesday March 20, 2024, the Tanzania Port Authority (TPA) issued a statement to its employees regarding the change in the operation of the Port of Dar es Salaam, Pier number zero (RoRo) to Pier number seven.
The changes are based on the Agreement between TPA and DP World Company of Dubai regarding the operation and development of Piers 0-7 of the Port of Dar es Salaam for a period of thirty (30) years starting on October 22, 2023.
Due to the changes in the management and operation of the mentioned areas, the employees of the Port of Dar es Salaam were required to choose either to remain at the TPA or to terminate the employment contract with the TPA and be employed by DP World on the spot.
The management of TPA gave the information to the employees after completing a special program to educate them and provide a detailed explanation and correct information regarding the mentioned changes to its employees.
In the Management statement, Employees who will agree to join DPW voluntarily were directed to submit their information (Notice) in the Office located on the 32nd floor of the TPA Headquarters Building (One Stop Center) before or by March 29, 2024. In addition, Employees who they will not want to join DP World, they will remain TPA because the Authority will continue to need employees who will provide services in its Ports that continue to be improved in various areas in the country.
Based on the explanation above, TPA Management would like to inform the Public that, the circulating information was provided for the Employees and TPA did so in order to complete the procedures to transfer services to DP World.
TPA assures the public that it will continue to value its employees who are the most important resources in the Authority and in the implementation of this exercise, the interests of all relevant parties will be fully considered in accordance with the Laws of our country.

He has said that Tanzanians should not be afraid of its implementation, as preparations have already been made and 11,000 new teachers will be hired. He gave this information a day after he announced 49 new combinations in various subjects where there were only 16 combinations previously.
The combinations are divided into seven groups and will come into force in July this year. The categories are social science, language, business, science, sports, art and religious education. The other day, Mchengerwa stated the reason for the introduction of these specifics, that it is the implementation of the change in the education policy for the year 2024, the 2023 edition and the fifth form education curriculum.
Once the combinations were announced, there were various discussions from stakeholders, some who congratulated them saying they open up opportunities for students to have a choice of specials and others questioning the readiness of the government.
In the arguments of the stakeholders, Minister Mchengerwa in an important interview yesterday, said that Tanzanians should not be afraid of the implementation of the specifics, saying: “in this the government is well organised and has not panicked”. Minister Mchengerwa added by saying that “We at TAMISEMI in collaboration with the Ministry of Education have planned well to ensure that we have enough experts to ensure that we treat the problem.”
Among the strategies he mentioned is to hire 11,000 teachers by April this year who will go to reduce the shortage of teachers. “Mr. President has already issued employment permits for approximately 11,000 teachers that we are going to hire starting next month, who will go to the areas where there is a shortage of teachers in some of the specialties I talked about earlier,” said Mchengerwa.
Regarding the Budget, Minister Mchengerwa said the government has already prepared and has held talks with the World Bank (WB) who promised to help. “now you can’t be helped if you haven’t shown the area you want to be helped and in this as you know we have started online classes” he said.
Minister Mchengerwa mentioned the use of digital technology in teaching to deal with the shortage of students, saying that one teacher can teach the whole country if we close online classes. “One teacher can teach 100,200 or even 500 schools. In this area, we have already set strategies by asking council directors in budgeting areas. “One of the strategies is to ensure that there are digital devices in our schools and we have advised each council to ensure that it has one school to begin with , where a teacher can stay in Kibaha (Coastal Region) or stay in Dodoma and teach all the schools in the country”, he said.
He said that tests have already been done and they have gone well and through that method even students from different areas who are connected to the system see each other. He also mentioned the educational program through training that will enable students to gain knowledge and experience. “Therefore, students who finish their studies in various colleges, diplomas and diplomas means they are going to start working for the government, there will be practical training, so there will be millions of teachers,” he said.
