Article 143 provides for the Controller and Auditor General of the Republic of Union of Tanzania, responsible for controlling all funds from the General Fund Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, conducting audits of revenue and expenditure of public resources as approved by the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania.

Similarly, Article 143 Controller and Auditor General after to conduct such an audit of income and expenditure at least once a year, he is required submit the Audit Report to the Honorable President of the United Republic of Tanzania before March 31, and Mr. President within seven (7) days shall direct the Ministers responsible for submitting such information to Parliament. In addition, in ensuring that the Controller and Auditor General acts accordingly this Constitutional duty, Section 20 of the Public Audit Act, Cap 418 has established a National Audit Office which is headed by a Controller and Auditor General Government Accounts.

Pursuant to this Article, the Controller and Auditor General of The Government, on behalf of Parliament, will investigate, question and evaluate the accounts submitted to him as directed under the Public Finance Act, the State Finance Act of Local Government and any other Act, and to perform any other duties which is authorized to enforce by or under the said Act.
