Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag said Alejandro Garnacho should not be compared to Wayne Rooney or Cristiano Ronaldo after his stunning goal in Sunday’s 3-0 win over Everton.
Youngster Garnacho silenced a fiery Goodison Park after just three minutes with a sublime header that will be a contender for goal of the season.
Former United stars Rooney and Ronaldo both scored similar goals in their careers, but Ten Hag insisted it was too early to rule out 19-year-old Garnacho in the prestigious club.
Ten Hag, who saw his side take the most points in the Premier League thanks to second-half efforts from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, said: “Don’t compare, I don’t think it’s fair.
“They all have their own identity, but in order for Garnacho to go that way, he has a lot to come, he needs to work hard.
“You have to do it on a consistent basis and so far he hasn’t done that, but without a doubt he has great potential to do amazing things.
“It’s not the first time we’ve seen this, we’ve already seen a few things, but if you want to be a player like Rooney or Ronaldo, you have to score 20-25 goals in the Premier League every season.
“That is not easy to get, you have to work hard, you have to go to places that hurt. So there’s a lot to come. But he has the power.”
The boss enjoyed that one 👌
